CREEi MScB Curriculum 

 The CREEi two-year master’s degree in bioethics (MScB) curriculum was designed by its leadership in consultation with its alumni, faculty, and its advisory board. Its asynchronous hybrid onsite-online structure is a model for research ethics education that can be adapted to any region, country, or language.

Compared with many online programs, CREEi’s retention rate since inception remains relatively high. We attribute this primarily to two things: its participatory, interactive, and context-specific approach to online learning; and its annual in-person intensive courses during which relationships among fellows and faculty are fostered and sustained.

Courses designated with * include assignments that guide students through designing and conducting a normative bioethics project and preparing to adapt and submit it for publication. During BIE 694, they are paired with a research mentor who works individually with them as they develop and conduct their master’s project. The projects advance through subsequent activities in the Onsite Practicum, Online Practicum, MSc I, MSc II, MSc III, and Onsite Capstone courses and through independent work with their mentor.

Students submit the final written version of their master’s project during MSc III. Course activities during the capstone course include, among others, an oral presentation and defense of their work. The MScB degree is awarded by Clarkson University to those who are in good academic standing and have completed all academic requirements.
